Onwards and upwards Part 9 – Nadine

New Year, New Who, What, Where?

I am someone who loves to plan ahead. Anyone who knows me will attest to that, not least the team at My Mustard who have had to put up with my ‘ways’ for years now. It’ll come as no surprise that I have had the word ‘Planner’ featured in my job title for most of my career.

This year has provided extremely shaky ground for people like me, who need to be guided by some of life’s certainties in order to plan anything effectively eg. you can meet whoever you want whenever and wherever you like, is that too much to ask? Apparently so.

There have been a number of contradictory and ever-changing rules over the last 9 months that have sent me into a tailspin, with the Tier system another example of that. A 5-day Christmas friends/family frenzy has been permitted. But with no more than 3 bubbles/households, excluding support bubbles. Does the rule of six still count? I ordered my turkey in October – of course I did – but now another bubble may be joining us… Breathe.

2020 has been hard for everyone, and it looks like a long winter is still ahead of us. Back in April I read a post by Matt Haig on Instagram in which he wrote, “One day this will be over, and we will be grateful for life in ways we never felt possible before.” In a climate full of uncertainty that thought brings me welcome comfort.

All I know for certain at the moment is that I won’t be travelling anywhere on the 23rd or 27th December. Now there is something I can plan around.
